Hello Chris,
I am having some performance issues while editing my DNG NEFs. (DNGs – NEFs with Markerless)
I tried to resolve it, but I can’t find the area where improvement can be made, so I am now using your workaround: disable the smart previews. It solves my performance issue, however, I still have experience the shortcomings of the DNG preview. Every time I switch to the Edit tab and click the ‘Use Preview’ button, I lose the DNG’s link with the original image, and all the other tags (like Keywords, Location, etc) are lost as well. If other people are working with the same image, they can’t use it anymore.
Would it be possible to keep all the tags and links so we can use one image multiple times with only losing the edit mode when working on the DNG?

I agree with you that performance on my side is reduced with a the smart preview feature.
When I’m working on portraits, I always have smart previews enabled. However, when I’m working on a landscape, or a product shot, I in some cases also open a preview to look at the image whilst holding my mouse vertically to the left or right in order to modify the on screen preview horizontally. This is the only area in which I wish I had a bit more performance to work more efficiently.
And of course there’s the huge advantage of having the DNG available for reference outside of the editing process. However, no matter what I’ve discovered, I can’t see how the DNG could be divided from the original capture, as it would need to be stringed a number of times through the individual layers – and that’s not possible using the smart preview feature.
I suspect that the smart preview section of the NFR and some of the other features were designed to produce a result that could not be achieved otherwise. And some of the designers may be of the opinion that’s enough and doesn’t want to risk compromising speed to obtain a better result.
If you are able to feedback the performance/speed issue with you smart preview feature, I would be most grateful,

The eraser tool is a droplet brush. This brush tool can be used to either remove excess or unwanted layers of paint. It is one of the most common tools to remove unwanted background or erase layer borders on canvas. Also this tool helps to fill in areas of shadows and highlights.

Find the eraser tool by opening the main menu and navigating to “select” from the top. Firstly, you choose a brush size to either use a large brush or find the “magic wand” and click using the left mouse button.

Select & move. You can select and move objects using this tool. Search for the white little x that is highlighted with a blue box. Now, select the objects and simply click and drag around. It is very useful for moving and adjusting text.

The fill color. Increases the background color. For example, if you use the previous settings depicted in the bellow image, and select the fill color, the background will change your selected objects to the dark color.
