The Road to 56 does a great job of expanding the focus tree systems, replacing the obsolete «Zones» with the «Population Centers», and adding several new Focus Tree options that make HOI4 different from vanilla HOI. The most notable of these is the jump to «Grand War», a new end-game mod that, as the name suggests, puts all the nations on board for WWIII.

Since the focus onto nuclear weapons is utterly broken right now in HOI4, the «Nuclear War» mod instead jump cut the game after the 1965 fallout, jumping to the year 2096 and an all-out nuclear war. A way cool idea from the game’s mod community.

How long do you need to spend in the 57th century? This mod adds a new scale called «years to end-game» which the player can choose to let peace reign, or to let war define a new era. There is also the new «2-year rule» that provides a quicker end-game for nations with the highest level of military tech. This mod would serve as foundation for many a mod to avoid game-looping altogether.

The mod adds extra nations to see, with more units and greater diversity in the available troop types. This revamps the tech tree adding additional weapon/ship types, as well as many more variants to existing weapons that yield large amount of experience. I like its idea of having a faction specific theme for each nation, such that a player can’t be ambushed by using their own units.

The Road to 56 mod somehow manages to add at least 20 new countries to the world of HOI4. It adds a large number of new maps and units, completely overhauls the tech trees, acknolwedges new nations like Sweden, Poland and the USSR, and reworks the focus trees themselves.

If you want to add the Road to 56 Focus Tree, but the vanilla «Standard Focus Tree» appears to be bugged, or if you are not satisfied with the vanilla Focus Tree, and want a completely new focus tree, this is the mod for you. Every leftover focus of the vanilla «Standard Focus Tree» are included, were replaced by a new one based on the Road to 56!
